Interesting Fact(s): Buford's cavalry division, arriving in Gettysburg, PA on July 1, was able to hold a division of A.P. Hill's Corps, northwest of town, until John Reynold's I Corps arrived on the field. This allowed the Union army time to fortify on Cemetery Ridge, south of Gettysburg. Gettysburg would be Buford's last campaign, as he would die, in Washington, DC, of typhoid fever.
