Interesting Fact(s): Logan was elected to the Illinois legislature, and in 1858 was elected to the House of Representatives as a Free-Soil Democrat. Logan was loyal to the Union, and after fighting at Bull Run, went back to Illinois to recruit a regiment. Logan served with distinction throughout the war. He was nicknamed "Black Jack," because he had very dark eyes and hair.
