Interesting Fact(s): Nelson graduated 2nd, in the 1842 Class, at West Point, a class that included such revered names as Lafayette McLaws, James Longstreet, A.P. Stewart, William Rosecrans and Abner Doubleday. After Fredericksburg, Nelson was one of the generals that recommended to Lincoln, that Ambrose Burnside be removed from command. This did not help his military career, a career that he exhibited the highest bravery.
