Interesting Fact(s): After a valiant fight, at Shiloh, and the Siege of Corinth, Hurlbut would take charge of the Department of the Gulf. While there, he would be accused harassing the "carpet bag" government, of Louisiana. This nearly led to his arrest, by US General Edward Canby. Fortunately for Hurlbut, Lincoln let this die down, without arresting Hurlbut. Later, President Grant would appoint him minister to Columbia.
