This is the view west, from
Cemetery Ridge. Off in the distance is the Virginia monument. It
was from this general area, that CS Major General George Pickett started his
infamous charge. The fence you see in the distance, was the fence they
had to dismantle - or climb over - to reach the Federal line. When the
Rebels reached the fence, the Federal artillery came to life, tearing huge
holes in the Confederate line.
