This area, of the Cox field, was
lined with Union artillery, that would open the battle, against Van Dorn, on
March 8. Van Dorn would be caught unprepared, and without ammunition.
The artillery barrage, unleashed by Curtis, is said to be one of the largest
of the Civil War.
