After a precipitous retreat,
from the Hornet's Nest, US Major General Ulysses S. Grant, assembled a
tremendous defensive position along the Pittsburg Landing Road. This
large river gun, was brought up, along with parts of US Major General Don
Carlos Buell's Army of the Ohio, to repulse the Confederates. They
were successful, and opened the battle on April 7, pushing the Rebels back
to Corinth, MS.
