Battle Summary:
In late September, 1862, the Union's Army of the Potomac, commanded by US Major General George B. McClellan, expelled Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, from Sharpsburg, MD.  On September 17, these armies engaged in what would become the bloody single day, in U.S. history, and would be named after a lazy creek that runs through Sharpsburg - Antietam.
