Having read many of the broader
Civil War histories, I have started reading a lot more narratives
that focus on a battle, or the actions of a specific regiment, or
brigade, during a battle. This book falls into this category.
It is one of the best books I have read, and it focuses exclusively
on the Battle of Brawner Farm, that opened the battle of 2nd
Manassas. This would become the "black hat brigade's" baptism
by fire, and would lead to their designation, "Iron Brigade" after
the battle of South Mountain. |

well researched, was hard to follow at times, thus only earning a
"3" rating. |
